2. What do you look for in submissions?

We are looking for fiction of all kinds (short stories, essays, memoirs, political narratives, historical novels, poetry), non-fiction (non-fiction essays, memoirs, political narratives, travel books, cultural criticism), art books, and multimedia materials (images, audio, videos). We do not accept work with no theme, no clear focus; it must be tied to some point of discussion. We are looking for vivid prose, sharp ideas, and a fresh, lively voice. It is possible that our sense of what we need/want and your sense of what we need/want to publish might not align, and that's fine. We don't have to be right all the time. We want to be inspired by your work, and we want to publish something that we can be proud of, something we can put on display and then take pride in. Whether or not your work is right for us is your decision.

5. What about the submission fee?

Editorial decisions are final. While this journal welcomes submissions from people of all economic and aesthetic levels, the editors must exercise editorial judgment in selecting which works to accept and which to decline.

We highly value and encourage the submission of work from writers outside the U.S. Our submissions guidelines will be made available on our website in early September. Thank you for taking the time to submit your work. We look forward to seeing it!
