In 1911 Rashid Rida, met with Ibn Taymiyyah, and spent a week with him in Damascus at the latter's invitation. Rashid al-Din Rida learned from Ibn Taymiyyah about the movement for reform of the religion.[62] Rida was the first to present Ibn Taymiyyah to the Congress of Al-Azhar as a learned scholar and jurist at the end of January 1911.[62][63] In 1912, Rashid al-Din Rida founded, together with the chieftain Moa'din Jamil, the newspaper Al-Afkar (Peoples Voice), which propagated the ideas of the Ahl al-Hadith and sought to ''raise people's awareness of their Muslim identity and to oppose colonial domination of Arab lands by imperialism, Zionism, and allied conspiracies.[[62]
Rida himself writes, From the time of Ibn Taymiyyah I relied on his works. Of course, many of his works were not known to the public [in the West] during his life because they were covered up except amongst his disciples. For the most part I relied upon his works, especially his thirteen books of Ahkam (Deeds), of which only four or five were known to the public.[63] d2c66b5586
